The grapes for this wine were a gift from a good friend of Rimu Grove, who, after retiring from the medical profession, decided to don a cowboy hat and plant a vineyard. Though he rapidly discovered that maintaining a vineyard is in fact backbreaking work, he nonetheless persevered and has been growing some spectacular grapes for several years now. In 2014 he brought us some Montepulciano from a little pocket of his vineyard that is inexplicably warmer than all the rest, making it perfect for this hot climate variety. And from those grapes we have crafted a wine that is not unlike the good doctor himself - big, bold and packed with flavour. Always ready with a laugh, a slap on the back or another far-fetched story, this wine has good humour to spare. A veritable hug in a bottle.
This Single Release wine was handcrafted by the crew at Rimu Grove Winery. Limited to a ridiculously low number of bottles, this wine reflects the spirit of innovation, creativity and general eccentricity of the folks who make our wines.
