During the 2014 vintage here at Rimu Grove our Viognier insisted on ripening well after every other variety was already picked and pressed. And by doing so it reminded us of one particular vineyard worker in our crew that year who never seemed quite able to get to work on time. With morning texts that included, “Sorry, I’m going to be late because my car keys got thrown out with the trash” and, “Sorry, I’m going to be late because I sold that car you lent me”, this unnamed individual was, nevertheless, fantastic once he did show up. Hardworking and enthusiastic, he was also – like this wine – lively, exuberant, unpronounceable, hand-picked and well worth the wait.
This wine was produced from fruit grown in the Moutere Hills which underwent gentle whole-bunch pressing. 50% was aged sur lie in a French oak barrel, 50% in a stainless steel tank.
This Single Release wine was handcrafted by the crew at Rimu Grove Winery. Limited to a ridiculously low number of bottles, this wine reflects the spirit of innovation, creativity and general eccentricity of the folks who make our wines.
